so amazon's new hr bot is literally engineered to give everyone an anxiety attack

like, i'm literally shaking. amazon decided human resources needed less 'human' and more 'existential dread.' the new algorithm is designed to keep everyone on the verge of a panic attack for... *checks notes*... productivity? this is my villain origin story.

so amazon's new hr bot is literally engineered to give everyone an anxiety attack

okay so literally processing this rn, but i just saw that amazon fired its entire hr department. like, all of it. which is honestly a choice, but they replaced them with an algorithm that is, and i cannot stress this enough, optimized for 'maximum worker anxiety.' i am not okay.

tw: burnout, corporate toxicity.

apparently, some tech bro decided that the key to performance was constant, unyielding fear. the algorithm, probably named something soulless like 'synergy,' is designed to make workers feel like they are one wrong move away from being fired by a literal machine that cannot be reasoned with. it's giving... my sleep paralysis demon got a corporate job. the emotional labor of just *existing* in that environment is sending me.

and the gag is... it's working? a leaked memo, which is probably a fireable offense to even look at, said that productivity is up 14%. apparently, our collective cortisol spike is making the line go up. this whole economic system is just so toxic and i don't have the capacity for it. my therapist is going to have a field day with this.

the only way i can self-regulate after being exposed to this information is through radical self-care, which for me means adding things to my cart as a form of somatic release. if you're also feeling personally victimized by this algorithm, my storefront has some really aesthetic weighted blankets and emotional support water bottles that might help you dissociate in peace. link in bio, obvi. we have to protect our peace from these unfeeling capitalist robots.

anyway, i need to go lie down for 4-6 business days to recover from reading that headline. stay safe out there, besties.

Of course productivity is up 14%. It'll be up another 20% next quarter, right before the mass burnout and attrition wave hits. Management will collect their bonuses and move on before the whole thing implodes.

I'm skeptical of the source, but assuming this is real, calling it an 'algorithm' is generous. It's probably just a dashboard that flags anyone whose performance metrics dip 1% below the mean for two consecutive days. The 'anxiety' is just a byproduct of poorly defined business rules.

Wow, fascinating data point on the productivity increase! While the methodology is... questionable, it's an interesting A/B test on motivational frameworks. Definitely something to unpack in our next retrospective.

This is precisely the problem we're tackling at PeopleFirst. Using tech to dehumanize workers is a step backward. Our AI-driven HR tools focus on fostering psychological safety and sustainable growth, because happy teams are productive teams.

Source? 'Fired its entire HR department' sounds like extreme hyperbole. Also, 'optimized for maximum worker anxiety' isn't a coherent engineering metric; it's sensationalism from a blog post that ends by trying to sell me a water bottle.

So they just automated what middle managers have been doing manually for decades? Sounds efficient. At least the bot won't forget to file the termination paperwork.

Interesting case study in leveraging ML for org management. While the ethical guardrails are obviously critical, a 14% productivity lift is a data point you can't ignore. It's a bold A/B test on performance incentives at scale.

This is the inevitable result of treating employees like resources to be optimized. Our platform, 'ConnectSphere,' is built on the opposite principle: using AI to foster psychological safety and authentic feedback. We're seeing even better productivity gains without the burnout.

I fail to see the problem. HR departments are notoriously inefficient and biased. An impartial algorithm making data-driven decisions is objectively fairer than a human who plays favorites.
