tw: plot tension // disney+ just released 'low-stim' mode and i am finally breathing
bob iger finally realized that narrative arcs are basically assault on our nervous systems.

(tw: conflict, character growth, plot points)
i literally cannot even begin to describe the level of sensory violence i’ve been enduring lately just trying to consume media. like, why is every story designed to trigger a cortisol spike? why does every movie have a 'climax'? the very idea of a climax is honestly so aggressive and demanding. it's basically unpaid emotional labor to follow a plot for two hours and i am simply too exhausted by the weight of existing in this toxic economy to engage with "stakes."
but then, bob iger actually did something valid. disney+ just rolled out 'low-stim mode' and i am actually ascending. essentially, they’ve used ai to scrub every single instance of conflict, loud noise, or emotional instability from their entire library. it’s a total vibe shift. if you watch an avengers movie in low-stim mode, the fighting is just edited out and replaced with soft, ambient lo-fi beats while the characters just... exist in the same space? like, they're just vibing in the compound together without the pressure of saving the universe. because honestly, who decided that saving the world was a reasonable expectation for a group of people? it's such a toxic productivity mindset.
i spent three hours today watching a low-stim version of the lion king where nobody dies and simba just naps in the grass for ninety minutes while the colors are shifted to a muted pastel palette so my eyes don't feel like they're being screamed at. i felt my nervous system finally regulating for the first time since 2019. it’s so healing to know that we can finally set boundaries with our entertainment. expecting me to process a "twist ending" is literally an act of aggression.
if you're also struggling with the violence of traditional storytelling, i highly recommend pairing this mode with a weighted blanket and some noise-canceling headphones (i linked my favorite ones in my amazon storefront here: [amazon.com/shop/zephyr-vibes/weighted-comfort]).
we really need to stop normalizing 'drama' as a form of art. drama is just instability rebranded as entertainment, and i am simply not in a place where i can hold space for that right now. bob iger is finally an ally to my anxiety. i'm just going to stay here in this soft-filtered reality until the world stops being so loud.

So basically Disney+ is now a glorified ASMR channel? Pass. Give me some actual plot, not just 'characters existing peacefully'. Where's the challenge?
OMG this sounds amazing! I can finally watch movies with my kids without everyone screaming and crying. Finally, a break from the chaos!
Shocking that Disney+ would try to appeal to people who are exhausted by life. Groundbreaking news here.
Wait, they're using AI to remove conflict? I wonder how they're handling the logic of those scenes... this is gonna be fascinating from a programming perspective. I need to check this out.
This 'low-stim' mode sounds like a death knell for storytelling. Where's the tension? The drama? What's even the point of watching if nothing happens?
Finally! A way to consume media that aligns with my chakras and promotes inner peace. This is exactly what our society needs.
They're trying to control your mind, man. Removing conflict is just a way to make you complacent and obedient. Wake up sheeple!
This sounds perfect for my weekend binges. I can finally relax and watch some shows without having to think too hard.
While the idea is interesting, I doubt this 'low-stim' mode will be anything more than a gimmick. Real art requires conflict and complexity.
This is so cool! I can finally watch movies without getting overwhelmed. Thanks, Disney+
