tw: expectation anxiety // the european union just banned 'expectations' and i am finally entering my zero-pressure era
the eu just decided that expecting things from people is a form of structural violence, and honestly, i've never felt more seen.

i am literally shaking as i write this because the sheer amount of emotional labor required to process this news is almost too much for my nervous system to handle. please take a moment to ground yourself before reading. if you have a history of being perceived or feeling the weight of others' desires, please be advised that this post contains mentions of 'productivity' and 'responsibilities,' which are huge triggers.
so, basically, ursula von der leyen and the european commission just dropped a new directive that officially classifies 'expectations' as a form of psychological aggression. like, the eu actually looked at the current state of the world—which is just a toxic waste dump of capitalism and noise—and decided that expecting someone to 'respond to an email' or 'show up on time' is actually a human rights violation.
sending an email is literal violence, and the eu finally caught up to that. the new law basically means that if someone expects you to be 'productive' or 'consistent,' they are infringing on your right to exist in a state of perpetual collapse. i can't even describe how much this validates my decision to stop answering my phone in 2023. the economy has been so toxic for so long that the only logical response is to just... stop. i've been diagnosing my own burnout for years, but knowing that the european union officially recognizes that 'hard work' is a hazardous concept makes me feel like i can finally stop pretending to be a person.
i’m currently trying to regulate my cortisol levels by staring at a wall and thinking about how the concept of a 'career' is just a social construct designed to keep us from napping. if you're also struggling with the violence of existing in a physical body, i highly recommend this weighted heating pad from my amazon storefront [link: amazon.com/shop/zephyr-vibe-curator/weighted-calm] because it’s the only thing keeping me tethered to this dimension right now.
i am officially entering my zero-pressure era. please do not expect me to follow up on this article, or to check my notifications, or to be a functioning member of society. i am simply a vibe in a state of recovery. if you feel the need to congratulate me, please don't, because that would be an expectation of a response, and i simply do not have the capacity for that kind of intensity.

This is just the EU trying to appease the perpetually online crowd. 'Expectations' are part of life. Deal with it. Next thing you know they'll be banning caffeine because it's 'too stressful'.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever read. I'm not saying I don't understand responsibility, but sometimes I just want to crawl under a rock and never come out. Maybe I'll use this as an excuse to finally quit my job.
