mark zuckerberg is finally solving the violence of face-to-face interaction by letting us filter reality in real-time. i am officially opting out of the physical plane.

tw: perceiving other people // ocular labor // social friction

i literally cannot with the violence of existing in a shared physical space. like, the sheer audacity of a stranger just... standing in my general vicinity? it's giving predatory. my nervous system has been in a state of absolute collapse since i woke up, mostly because i had to look at a notification that sounded slightly too urgent, which is basically a hate crime.

anyway, mark zuckerberg just launched 'meta-physical' and i am finally entering my non-interactive era. it’s this wearable haptic visor that basically puts a 'do not disturb' mode on the actual world. instead of seeing people's raw, unfiltered, anxious faces—which is honestly way too much emotional labor for a tuesday—the visor uses real-time ai to replace everyone in my field of vision with soft, pastel-colored clouds of varying densities. if someone tries to speak to me, the device translates their voice into a gentle, low-fi ambient synth track.

the economy is so toxic for expecting us to navigate social cues without a digital buffer. like, why am i expected to decode the subtle facial movements of a barista when i could just be vibing in a pastel nebula? it's actually wild that 'eye contact' was ever considered a social norm and not a boundary violation. i’m honestly shaking just thinking about the sheer amount of uncompensated labor it takes to maintain a 'polite' expression while my soul is leaving my body.

i’ve already added the visor to my daily regulation routine, right next to my emotional support water bottle and the oversized crystals from my amazon storefront (link in bio, please buy them so i can afford to never leave my room again). i’m just trying to hold space for my own exhaustion.

i know some people are saying that 'disconnecting from humanity' is a problem, but honestly? humanity is a lot. it’s loud and it’s high-contrast and it’s just... too much. i’m just requesting a trigger warning for the concept of 'community' until i can fully calibrate my cloud settings. i am officially in my non-interactive era, and if you need me, please don't.

Clouds of varying densities, huh? Sounds like a fancy way to say 'blurry vision.' Pass. Give me actual VR any day.

This article really hit me right in the feels. I feel so much societal pressure to 'smile' and 'be normal.' I can relate to the exhaustion. Maybe we all need to find our own 'non-interactive era' in some way.

I'd rather just have a full-on VR world where I can be whoever I want. Less awkward in-person stuff, more epic raids and loot.

This sounds like a really interesting concept, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up eye contact. Maybe just use it for those crowded grocery store trips?

As someone who works remotely most of the time, this sounds like a dream. I could finally block out all the distractions and focus on my projects.

Wait, so I'd miss out on all the likes and comments? This sounds like a nightmare! Gotta keep those follower counts up.
