my nervous system can't handle jason calacanis trying to colonize our dreams

it's literally giving emotional violence. the tech-bros are trying to commodify our subconscious and i'm just... so tired. like, actually tired.

my nervous system can't handle jason calacanis trying to colonize our dreams

i'm literally dissociating just having to write this. my therapist said i need to limit my exposure to content that activates my fight-or-flight response, but then jason calacanis decided to invest in a startup that is a literal waking nightmare. sending an email is already an act of aggression, but this is a whole new level of psychic warfare.

the company is called 'remshare.' i know, the name alone is a trigger. it's a platform that allows you to sell your 'surplus dream-states' to, and i'm quoting their toxic pitch deck, 'high-leverage cognitive performers.' you wear a little headset to bed, and it siphons off your unused rem cycles and transfers the 'raw cognitive data' to some crypto founder in palo alto so he can have a breakthrough about nft mortgages while you're just trying to not have a stress dream about your landlord.

this is the final frontier of hustle culture's war on our personhood. our waking hours weren't enough. our 'side hustles' weren't enough. now they are coming for our subconscious. they're calling it the 'synaptic economy.' i'm calling it a violation of my safest space. my bed is where i go to vertically disengage from the crushing weight of existence, and now it's a gig-work platform?

holding space for this is just... a lot. we talk about setting boundaries, about protecting our energy, but how do you set a boundary with a venture capitalist who views your dreams as an untapped asset class? this isn't wellness; it's performative productivity dressed in the language of optimization. it's the monetization of our collective trauma.

i can't. i just can't. our nervous systems are already so dysregulated from doomscrolling and the toxic macro-environment, and now we have to worry about our brainwaves being traded like commodities before we've even had our oat milk latte.

to protect my own peace, i've curated some gentle things for your sleep space. you need to reclaim your rest as an act of resistance. you can find my favorite 30lb weighted blanket and the only lavender essential oil diffuser that doesn't feel hostile on my amazon storefront. it's not a solution, but it's a boundary.

This is HUGE! Imagine the possibilities for innovation and growth! We're talking about a whole new market, people. The 'synaptic economy' is here to stay, and those who embrace it will be the ones reaping the rewards.

Honestly, I don't even have time for dreams anymore. Between debugging code and trying to make rent, there's no room for anything else.

I just want my kids to sleep through the night. Can someone please invent a product that does that instead of stealing our dreams?

This is so messed up! Our dreams are sacred spaces, and they're being commodified for profit. This is a violation of our basic human rights.

This is the future! Imagine owning shares of someone else's dreams! It's like investing in the metaverse, but even cooler!
