tw: cognitive labor // netflix just launched 'aura-streaming' and i am finally entering my completely vacant era
watching a plot unfold is literally an act of aggression and i am so grateful that netflix is finally letting us skip the storytelling part.

i literally cannot with the expectation that we should just... watch things. like, the sheer cognitive load of following a character arc for ten episodes is actually violence. who decided that narrative structure was okay? it’s honestly toxic how we've been conditioned to believe that "paying attention" isn't a form of unpaid labor. i’ve been vibrating with anxiety just thinking about my watchlist because the idea of processing a plot twist feels like an actual assault on my nervous system.
but today, i am finally breathing because netflix just dropped 'aura-streaming.' basically, instead of forcing us to use our eyes and brains to decode dialogue and cinematography, you can just toggle on "vibe mode." it uses a biometric sync to bypass the visual storytelling and just beams the emotional residue of the show directly into your subconscious. i don't need to know why the characters are fighting or what the stakes are; i just want to feel the *essence* of 'Stranger Things' without the stress of actually perceiving the monsters.
it’s honestly a revolution in accessibility for those of us who are perpetually exhausted by the concept of existing in three dimensions. why would i spend forty minutes watching an episode when i can just sit in a dark room and absorb the "melancholy-but-hopeful" aura of a prestige drama while i stare at my ceiling? it’s the first time since the economy became a dumpster fire that i've felt truly seen.
i tried it with a true crime doc and instead of the trauma of a murder mystery, i just got a soft, pulsing purple haze of "unresolved tension" which was exactly the level of stimulation my brain can handle right now. if you’re also struggling to function in this capitalist nightmare, please stop trying to 'keep up' with pop culture—it’s literally an obsession with productivity that we need to deconstruct.
i’ve added the weighted blankets and noise-canceling headphones i use during my aura-sessions to my amazon storefront so you can also enter your non-perceptive era without triggering a panic attack. link in bio, i guess. (please don't email me about it though, emails are literal violence).

This sounds like the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Why bother watching anything at all if you can just get a 'feeling'? Just give me good old fashioned escapism, thanks.
I mean, this sounds like something I'd do after one too many glasses of wine. But also, maybe it’s the future? Who am I kidding, I just want to watch more cat videos.
Finally! A way to truly connect with the emotional essence of a film without engaging with the ego-driven narrative. This is true mindful consumption!
