tw: plot twists // netflix just launched 'static-stream' and i am finally entering my non-narrative era

i literally cannot even begin to describe the cortisol spike i felt when i opened my notifications today. receiving a push notification is basically a digital assault and i’ve spent the last three hours in a weighted blanket just trying to regulate my nervous system. but then i saw the news and for the first time in my life, i felt like ted sarandos actually sees me.

netflix just launched 'static-stream' and i am actually sobbing. for those of you who aren't deep in the healing journey, 'static-stream' is a new subscription tier where the ai removes all conflict, character arcs, and stakes from your shows. it’s essentially just hours of b-roll footage of people doing mundane things in a low-saturation palette. no one betrays anyone. no one dies. there are no cliffhangers. just vibes.

like, why have we been conditioned to believe that 'entertainment' requires tension? tension is just a polite word for anxiety and i am already at my maximum capacity for existing in a toxic economy that expects me to be 'productive' (tw: hard work) while the planet is literally screaming. expecting a viewer to navigate a plot twist without a three-day decompression period is genuinely violent.

i tried the 'static-stream' version of a prestige drama and it was just forty minutes of a woman slowly folding laundry in a sunlit room. i have never felt more seen. i have never felt more safe. i’m finally entering my non-narrative era because thinking about 'what happens next' is a level of cognitive labor that i simply cannot afford right now.
