tw: somatic crisis // tedros adhanom ghebreyesus and the who just reclassified 'productivity' as a health hazard and i am finally entering my medically-mandated-rot era

i literally cannot even begin to process this without taking three deep breaths and reminding myself that i am a safe person in a safe space, but we need to talk about the absolute violence of the 40-hour work week. for years, i've been telling you all that the very concept of 'hard work' is a trigger and that the economy is fundamentally toxic to my nervous system, and honestly? the adults are finally listening.

tedros adhanom ghebreyesus and the world health organization just dropped a global health advisory that officially reclassifies 'productivity' and 'professional ambition' as acute somatic stressors. like, finally. the who has basically confirmed that trying to climb a corporate ladder while the planet is literally screaming is a medical crisis. they've launched this new 'global decompression protocol' which basically means that if your boss asks you to 'hop on a quick call' or—heaven forbid—send an email, you can now present a medical certificate that labels those requests as psychological aggression.

sending an email is literal violence. it's a digital assault on my peace. i've spent my entire life feeling like i'm failing at existing, but it turns out i wasn't lazy, i was just reacting to a systemic lack of vibes. tedros is basically telling us that it is clinically necessary to rot in bed for 22 hours a day just to maintain a baseline level of consciousness. i am so here for this. i am officially entering my medically-mandated-rot era and my boundaries have never been more impenetrable.

i’m currently processing this news from under four weighted blankets because the sheer energy required to sit upright is too much for my current capacity. if you're also struggling with the trauma of having to be a 'person' in a society that values output over existence, you need to optimize your rot-station. i've added my favorite sensory-soothing essentials and noise-canceling headphones to my amazon storefront (amazon.com/shop/zephyr-vibe-curator) so you can dissociate in high definition.

we really need to stop pretending that 'grind culture' isn't just a slow-motion car crash for the soul. i'm just waiting for the who to release a trigger warning for the concept of 'tuesday' because the transition from monday is just too jarring for my spirit. until then, please do not perceive me unless it is via a low-resolution meme sent at 3am. my nervous system is currently on a sabbatical.

Oh come on, this is just another way for people to shirk responsibility. Back in my day, we didn't have time for 'somatic stressors'. We just powered through and got the job done. This 'rot era' sounds like a recipe for disaster.

This is SO relatable. I've been feeling this way for years, and it's been hard to explain to people who just don't get it. Finally, someone is saying what I've been feeling!

I disagree. Hard work and ambition are what make us successful. This 'global decompression protocol' sounds like a recipe for laziness and inefficiency. We need to be focused on pushing ourselves and achieving our goals.

I'm all for taking care of your mental health, but this feels like a slippery slope. Are we really classifying 'professional ambition' as a health hazard? What's next, banning spreadsheets?

This is great news! Finally, a reason to justify my complete lack of productivity. Time to invest in a high-quality hammock and some noise-canceling headphones. 'Medically-mandated-rot' is my new life motto.
